Globe2Child Nominated to Trophées du Libre 2009

The recognition of the previous Trophées du Libre awards for the elected candidates, the reputation for the background and the rigor by each jury members and the relay into the « free software » community has allow to motivate new candidates. This first result re-inforce the Trophées du Libre as a very major event for the support of free software solutions since 2003.

It's why, Wiki-Up and XWiki present their project Globe2Child on this event. That was a great news to know we were nominated to participate on this welknow competition.

The Organization Committee is in charge of the process for the selection of the final candidates by category, the preparation for the two days projects presentation by the candidates, the final form for the ceremony awards and afterwards the future promotion of the software selected.

The ceremony date and some time for the explanations on each software is defined : it will be on June 5 and 6, 2009 and it will be a major event for the promotion of innovative projects in Picardy.

Globe2Child to Trophées du Libre

Globe2Child is a 100% Open Source project. We put in it all our resources and our hearts to make an interesting, educational and fun to use solution for both children, teachers, and families. Like any open source project, the volunteer developers and commitment of our community are keys to ensure our success. We have invested an initial budget to reach the first level of acceptable solution, ie 20 000 €. The platform as we imagined request a budget of 150 000 €.

Our first objective is to share the project with as many people as possible and try to find partnerships and exchanges necessary for its improvement. An open source project must continually increase its quality, ergonomics and applications.

A first success is to see children from a french school in Gennevilliers and children from a morocco one in Agadir, share and achieve real cross-cultural educational projects. This gives us the courage to continue our investment...

Aimed public : Children from all over the world, families, professors, educational, cultural and political actors.
Specificities : The Globe2Child project is very original because it includes a trimaran trip around the world on the theme "Let's give the Globe to the children" (Nazim Hikmet). At each stopover, the project's initiators will try to teach and learn new Internet and Open Source usages to the people they meet. Globe2Child is a true human and social adventure: one of the main characteristics of the platform is that it will allow linking together people located everywhere across the globe.
